Code of Ethics

1. Practitioner Conduct
I conduct myself in a way that can only enhance both coaching as a profession and the general public's understanding and acceptance of coaching as a profession.

2. Confidentiality
I will respect the confidentiality of my client's information, except as otherwise authorized by my client or as required by the law. Where I am contracted by a third party to deliver coaching e.g. a business or organization, it may be appropriate to give feedback/information to the contracting party concerning the process but not the content of coaching with an individual client. This fact needs to be made known to the recipient of the coaching.

3. Avoiding Conflict of Interest
As a coach, I will not misuse my coaching relationship to further my personal, political or business interests. Furthermore, I will deal with potential conflicts of interest in a way that is in accordance with this and other instruments of the Association.

4. Communication
Terms of Coaching Contracts I will ensure that my client fully understands the terms and conditions of the coaching relationship as set out by the LBCAI and I will furthermore ensure that a copy of the code is freely available to clients, potential clients and the general public.

5. Transparency of Competence
I will always communicate honestly and accurately my coaching competence, experience and qualifications.

6. Guarantees of Outcome
In my coaching relationships, I will not claim or imply any unreasonable or unrealistic outcomes.

7. Third Party Commissions/Compensation
I will, when appropriate, disclose to my client, all compensation to or from third parties in relation to that client.

8. Commitment to Standards
I commit to coaching according to the standards of practice as outlined by the LBCAI.

9. Boundaries
Coaches will not enter into a business, intimate or personal relationship with clients. Coaches will only enter into a counseling relationship with the agreement of both parties and appropriate qualifications.

10. Advertising Standards
In advertising coaching services, coaches will not claim unrealistic or exaggerated outcomes for the coaching process. Coaches will ensure that any claims they make concerning their experience and qualifications are accurate. Coaches will not use superlatives to describe their service e.g. 'the best', 'the most experienced' etc

11. Dealing with potential for conflicts of Interest
In the event of a conflict of interest arising, the issue will be resolved by reaching mutual agreement through discussion in the best interest of my client.

12. Honouring Agreements
I will respect every Term of Contract I make with my clients and if seperate, with whoever has contracted me for the coaching of my clients.

13. Communication
I will only use the association's accreditation/certification designation letters LBCAI after my name in agreement with the rules of the Association.

14. Client Benefit
The coach recognizes the needs of the client are paramount and will practice within the best interest of the client at all times

15. Inappropriate Advice/Information
I will not give clients/potential clients information I know to be confidential, incorrect or beyond my capability

16. Releasing Names
I will gain agreement from all clients prior to releasing their name for references.

17. Use of Association Membership Lists
I pledge that my usage of the Association's Membership lists will be in accordance with the rules of the Association at all times.

18. Intellectual Property Rights etc
I will acknowledge the work and contributions of others. I will respect copyrights, trademarks and intellectual property rights and I will comply with applicable laws and my agreements concerning these rights.

19. Insurance
I will ensure that my professional insurance arrangements are in accordance with and up to date with the Associations accreditation, certification and membership criteria.

20. Equality
The coach will always practice in a manner that is non-discriminatory.
